Rural glazed extension creates stunning views

This modern, zinc-clad glazed extension connects two elements of an out-building conversion together and in doing so creates stunning views over the fields and countryside.

The traditional farm buildings had been previously converted into a home, but the project lacked a central living space and connection between the two elements of the property, until the flat-roof extension surrounded by glass was constructed.

Extending from the old barn, the open plan space features two sets of SUNFLEX UK sliding doors which meet at a corner post and fill the new living area full of natural light. The larger 3-panel set opens across the rear of the structure, whilst a smaller 2-panel set opens towards the original structure of the home to create a panoramic view out.

To further connect the house and garden the stone flooring from the interior continues out on to the patio to create a seamless appearance, thanks to the flush-floor detail of the SVG30’s track, breaking down the boundaries between the interior and exterior of the extension.

The owners worked with HBD Systems in St Albans to design the doors, opting for an Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) finish to complement the zinc cladding of the roof and to help tie the two opposing elements of the original structure together into a consistent and stylish design that is easy on the eye.
