Open plan extension connected to garden by SVG20 sliding doors

For the owners of this 1930s home in Watford the dream for their renovation project was to create a bright open-plan kitchen and family room that would completely transform the home and add the extra space their growing family required.

To achieve this Studio RHL, their architects, designed a part single-storey, part double-storey extension to the rear of the house, creating additional bedrooms above a huge new living space that extended across three-quarters of the width of the house.

The new room measures more than 650 sqft and provides the family with a large modern kitchen including island and an open-plan family space, with enough room for a dining room table to seat the whole family.

Originally the design called for bifold doors across the rear of the extension, but having met HBD Systems in their showroom in St Albans the owners fell in love with the narrow frames and large panes of glass that the SUNFLEX UK SVG20 sliding doors created.

The three-panel system measures 8.5m wide and 2.45m tall and is designed with incredibly slim 20mm sightlines that provide an almost uninterrupted view out when closed, whilst the flush-floor detail of the track creates an seamless transition between inside and out when the doors are opened up.
