A unique set of circumstances called for a unique design and innovative architects BACA created this flood resilient home in Oxfordshire, complete with SUNFLEX SF55 aluminium bifold doors.
With the house sitting alongside a small brook in a leafy garden prone to flooding, the design was developed to find a safe solution to flooding, preserve the mature trees on the site and complement the surrounding historic buildings.
The solution was to raise the house above the flood level ensuring no water damage is caused. The timber-frame house is conceived as a series of interlocking buildings, clad in a mixture of timber, glass and steel in reference to nearby converted barns.
During a flood, water is conveyed underneath the elevated house, yet in dry periods its raised nature means the house appears to float above the surrounding wildflower meadow. The sculpted landscape enables water storage and provides a gradual warning of an approaching flood.
The family home is low in profile and simple in form with a nod to converted barns in the area; the series of interlocking buildings, clad in timber, glass and steel, provide open-plan living space that also manages to maintain the intimacy of separate rooms
Olsen UK supplied the project with SUNFLEX SF55 bifold doors, finished in RAL 7043 Traffic Grey to match the rest of the glazing, allowing the home owners to open up their living space in the summer and access the decking with ease.
