Hampshire home gets revamped and modernised with open-plan extension

When new the owners of this detached house in Farnborough decided to purchase the property they had a clear vision on how they could transform the house and better make use of the space for their family.

The first steps of the transformation were to demolish the existing conservatory and replaced it with a spacious, flat-roofed, single-storey rear extension. Additionally, they converted the garage to enhance the functionality of the house.

The extension matches the depth of the previous conservatory relatively closely, but by extending the roof over the patio it feels like a much larger addition because it allows for an outdoor living space that almost feels part of the inside.

To connect the extension with the patio and garden the owners spoke at some length to Thames Valley Windows about the options and decided upon the SUNFLEX SVG30 sliding doors because of their sheer versatility.

The doors were designed in a truly innovative configuration, combining an open, post-free corner with a pocket system where the panel slides behind the external wall to disappear completely out of view when the doors are open.

By opening the corner up completely the doors provide a connection to the covered patio and to the garden itself, with the full height glazing and narrow 30mm sightlines of the SVG30 maximising the amount of light that is let in.

The track of the doors was completely recessed into the floor, whilst the owners opted for Light Grey (RAL 7035) paint finish to the doors to perfectly complement the internal floor tiles and timber cladding on the rear of the extension.

The end result is stunning. The post-free open corner creates the illusion that the roof is floating above the opening and provides an incredible ‘wow’ factor. The versatility of the SVG30 being able to accommodate both a pocket and open corner within the same door system perfectly demonstrates why the system is the most customisable of any aluminium sliding door on the market – whilst the attention to detail and the quality of the doors provide the perfect solution to such a visually impressive extension.
