Kent home transformed by striking new angled extension

Replacing a previous extension which offered a poor use of space and limited the connection between house and garden was a key objective when the new owners of this house in leafy Tunbridge Wells. The finished result is a stunning design which offers eye-catching angles, large amounts of glass and a modern family living space.

This project, installed by YES Glazing, features a 3-panel SVG20 door system within a larger angled fixed frames. The spacious home had previously been extended to accommodate a larger dining room, while the kitchen remained in its original central location. The homeowners tasked Coleman Anderson Architects with replacing the existing extension to enable an internal remodel and create a stronger connection between the house and garden.

The new extension follows a similar footprint to the old addition but features higher ceilings and a chamfered corner. Thanks to the angled fixed frames and sliding doors, this design immediately enhances the indoor-outdoor connection. By glazing the rear elevation of the south-facing side, natural light floods deep into the home, resulting in a bright and inviting living space.

The homeowners opted for the narrow frames of the SVG20 to minimise the impact on their view out, whilst the design of the fixed frames and the angles at which they sat required detailed CAD drawings to achieve the desired look. The project also includes custom-designed aluminium cladding that wrapped around the steel structure – giving the finished installation a consistent appearance across the entire screen.
